Family Consulting

Unique Family Mediation Services

Families often have diverse dynamics and may struggle to agree on care for aging parents. We offer mediation services to assist families in planning and implementing care for their loved ones.

Common challenges include disagreements between  siblings regarding healthcare decisions and power of attorney (POA) arrangements.  This can significantly impact a loved one's care and future planning.

We serve as a main point of contact with healthcare professionals, ensuring effective communication and information access. Many families face the challenge of distance, where one member may handle most responsibilities but may not be able to share all pertinent information or coordinate care effectively. This can feel overwhelming, akin to a full-time job.

Our goal is to help families work together, regardless of their dynamics, to achieve better outcomes in health planning and future care.

Gerontology Resources

Professional Education and Training Services

We provide comprehensive education on aging in place, gerontology, and dementia care. Staying current with the latest research in health science, well-being, and cognitive decline-related disorders is a priority.

We offer individual learning and workshops  for families, care facilities, and organizations. Our goal is to equip participants and organizations with the knowledge and skills necessary to support older adults effectively.

Social Support

Planning for aging parents can be a complex and emotional process. Here are some common challenges families often encounter:

  1. Communication Barriers: Difficult conversations about aging, health issues, and future care preferences can lead to misunderstandings or resistance from parents.
  2. Emotional Stress: The emotional toll of seeing parents age and facing potential health declines can be overwhelming for family members, leading to anxiety and stress.
  3. Financial Concerns: Understanding the financial implications of healthcare, long-term care, and potential costs associated with aging can be daunting. Families may struggle with budgeting and planning for these expenses.
  4. Navigating Healthcare Systems: The complexity of healthcare systems, including understanding insurance coverage, benefits, and available services, can be confusing and time-consuming.
  5. Balancing Responsibilities: Family members often juggle their own work, children, and personal lives while trying to assist aging parents, leading to feelings of being overwhelmed and stretched too thin.
  6. Finding Appropriate Care: Identifying suitable long-term care options, home care services, or assisted living facilities can be challenging, especially when considering the specific needs and preferences of aging parents.
  7. Legal and Administrative Tasks: Managing legal documents such as wills, power of attorney, and healthcare directives requires careful attention and can be complicated.
  8. Location Challenges: When family members live far from their aging parents, providing support and assistance becomes more difficult, leading to feelings of helplessness.
  9. Resistance to Change: Aging parents may resist changes in their living situation or care plans, making it harder for families to implement necessary adjustments.
  10. Health Declines: Unforeseen health issues or emergencies can arise, requiring families to make quick decisions without adequate preparation.

Addressing these challenges often requires open communication, careful planning, and, in some cases, professional assistance to navigate the complexities of aging care. If you need more information or strategies for overcoming these challenges, feel free to ask!
